Diagnosis and management of MRSP in dogs and cats

Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (S. pseudintermedius) is a major cause of skin, ear
and wound infections in dogs and cats. Since the fi rst report of meticillin-resistant
S. pseudintermedius (MRSP) just over 15 years ago, cases have been described from all
over the world. The prevalence of MRSP is now worryingly high in some countries. This
article reviews the ecology and history of MRSP, along with the prevalence, risks factors
and management of MRSP infections.
