Changes in the UK tick landscape in the past decade
Ticks and tick-borne pathogens represent an increasing risk to UK pets and their owners. This threat comes not just from ticks endemic in the UK, but also from
those originating abroad. Changes in climate and habitat in the face of increased pet travel and importation has led to significant changes in UK tick populations. This article considers the ticks that pose the most significant threat to UK pets and their owners, their veterinary significance and changing distribution. It also considers tick prevention in pets to minimise the risk of pathogen transmission and resultant disease.
