Intestinal surgery in the dog and cat: Part 1

Intestinal disorders requiring surgical intervention are commonly encountered in small animal practice. A thorough understanding of these disorders, including how to diagnose them and then appropriately manage them, is essential in order to optimise patient outcome. This article consists of two parts. Part 1 will review intestinal anatomy and healing, common surgical intestinal disorders and the diagnostic imaging findings that may occur when investigating such disorders in dogs and cats.
