Feline Acute Pain: recognition, scoring and management

Pain management is an essential part of veterinary practice but can only be successfully applied when pain can be reliably recognised. The recently validated Glasgow Composite Multi-Dimensional Pain Scale (CMPS) Feline, provides a reliable, easy to use pain scoring system which can easily be integrated into day today practice to improve the delivery of analgesia to the cats in our care.

There are a wide range of safe and effective analgesic agents, many of which are licensed in cats. It is thus possible to provide adequate analgesia in all circumstances regardless of the cat’s age, health status or injuries.
