Infections with Giardia protozoa are common in UK cats and dogs with many sub clinical carriers of the parasite. This in combination with the potential for zoonotic risk makes decisions about when and how to treat Giardia infections difficult. Even when treatment is initiated, eliminating infections, and controlling clinical signs of giardiosis can be frustrating. This article considers Giardia infections in cats and dogs, resulting giardiosis, their treatment and control.
