Diagnosis and Management of Dermatophytosis in cats and dogs

Dermatophytosis (Ringworm) is a zoonotic fungal infection with variable worldwide incidence. It is uncommon in the UK. Cats are more frequently affected than dogs and the condition has a wide variety of clinical presentations. Most infections aresuperficial, although subcutaneous disease is occasionally reported. Microsporum canis and Trichophyton mentagrophytes are the most common species implicated, but other species can be involved. This paper describes the clinical symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of the condition in dogs and cats.
