Course Overview

This Hip and elbow dysplasia in dogs course covers two common developmental causes of lameness in dogs- hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. The course has been arranged to provide a sound knowledge of the aetiology of both conditions to enhance the understanding of diagnosis and therapy. The course covers surgical options for both conditions. Two lectures also cover conservative management (essentially an update on non-surgical osteoarthritis management) and the wider perspective encompassing breeding programs to reduce the prevalence of the contributing genes. It is hoped that this course will enhance the understanding of these conditions to enable clinicians to recognise how cases of developmental disease are best managed.

Module 1. Hip dysplasia – aetiology and diagnosis
Module 2. Hip dysplasia – surgical treatment options and prognosi
Module 3. Elbow dysplasia – aetiology and diagnosis
Module 4. Elbow dysplasia – surgical treatment options and prognosis
Module 5. Hip and elbow osteoarthritis – non-surgical management
Module 6. Hip (and elbow) dysplasia – will selective breeding eradicate them?
